Carolyn McDearmon lives in Swansboro, NC with her dog, Hershey. Carolyn has extensive teaching experience certified as both an Early Childhood Educator and Art Instructor, Pre-K – grade 12. Carolyn received her BA and first teacher certification from Stephens College, MO and her second from Philadelphia College of Art, PA. Her printmaking concentration led her to her passion for all things paper and to an established career as sole proprietor of a Boston-based graphic design studio. Rapid changes in technology at the time gave commercial printers the ability to run multi-colored presses allowing designers to mix exciting papers and textures into their work. For Carolyn, it was an exciting time to be a designer who loved paper! A life-long learner, Carolyn returned to teaching in both formal and informal settings. She has coordinated after-school programs and worked as a town-wide event coordinator and museum exhibit design assistant. Carolyn’s second passion is the science behind and processes of creating art, from culinary arts to visual arts. As an independent art educator, Carolyn has been teaching Summer Art in the Afternoons for the Town of Swansboro Parks and Recreation Department. She attended Penland School of Craft for papermaking. Carolyn is a former member of the boards of Rotary International and The America’s Boating Club of the Crystal Coast. Carolyn is co-founder and director of BE INSPIRED, INC. a 501 (C) 3 raising funds for scholarships in art education for youth and adults.
