"A Country, A People: Afghanistan Through the Eyes of the Men and Women of the US Military" Photography Exhibit

afghan womanThe Arts Council of Carteret County is proud to present this exhibit of 118 photographs of Afghanistan created by eight brave, talented men and women while serving in the US military during tours of duty in Afghanistan.

FREE PUBLIC RECEPTION: Friday, November 4, from 5:00-7:30 pm
REGULAR EXHIBITION HOURS: Nov 4-6 (Fri-Sun) 10 am-5 pm Nov 10-13 (Thurs-Sun) 10 am - 5 pm November 17-20 (Thurs - Sun) 10 am - 5 pm. The gallery will be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
LOCATION: Morehead Plaza, 2900 Arendell Street, Morehead City (Located between Tractor Supply Store and Snap Fitness)

Bob MaloneIn Memory of Bob Malone

The Arts Council of Carteret County extends its sympathy to the family of Robert Malone. Bob gave greatly of his time, talents and vitality to ACCC and had great passion for all of the arts. He has touched many lives throughout the community due to his enthusiasm for both the visual and the performing arts. As a member of the ACCC Board of Directors (2006-2012) Bob brought the highest degree of vision, intelligence and energy to the Arts Council. During his tenure he held the offices of Vice President (2008-2009), President (2009-2011), and Past-President (2011-2012). Read More

It's ARTrageous!

The Arts Council of Carteret County announces the Sixth Annual Arts Council of Carteret County Juried Waterfront Art Show, in conjunction with the Crystal Coast Boat Show. It will be held May 16 -17, 2015 on the Morehead City waterfront.

ARTrageous showcases regional artists and provides an opportunity for them to show
and sell art, and to provide entertainment and art enrichment activities for the thousands
of visitors and families attending the boat show.

Art from the Heart Student Art Show

The Arts Council of Carteret County is sponsoring the Art from the Heart Carteret County Student Art Show and would like to cordially invite you to view the featured artworks created by the K-12 students of Carteret County

Located in the Morehead plaza, by Snap Fitness, the show will run from March 13th-22nd. Those wishing to view the displayed artwork may visit the show from 4-6 P.M. weekdays and 12-4 P.M. on weekends. Displaying a wide variety of artistic styles, the show boasts some of the best selections of student artwork from each school.

In addition to the regularly scheduled viewing hours, on Thursday, March 19th at 5:30 P.M you are invited to attend the reception, which includes refreshments and snacks for all. Starting at 6 P.M. awards and recognition will be given to three overall winners from each school. The winning artworks are selected by a panel of judges consisting of several local artists. Please come support your local budding artists for a night of art and celebration.

Art from the Heart Dates Set

The Arts Council of Carteret County (ACCC) announces Art From the Heart 2015 scheduled February 20 - March 7, a show and sale of original artwork created by artists from Carteret, Craven, Pamlico and Onslow counties.

Registration for Art From the Heart begins February 13 and ends on February 15. Artists from those four counties may participate and are NOT required to be members of the Arts Council of Carteret County. Artists from counties other than Carteret, Craven, Pamlico and Onslow may participate provided they are members of the ACCC.

This year's show is being held at the Morehead Plaza, Morehead City, NC, between Snap Fitness and the former Home Emporium. (Please note: This show is not being held in the Morehead Plaza units in which AFH was held for the past two years.)

Scholarships Announced for 2015

The Arts Council of Carteret County (ACCC) is offering scholarship opportunities of up to $1,000 per student to provide tuition assistance for students pursuing degrees in the arts at the college level (two or four year courses of study) and the North Carolina School of the Arts

Scholarships under this program are available for tuition assistance only. They are not available to pay for private tutoring or classes not offered by accredited educational institutions. 
For the purpose of these scholarships “arts” are defined to encompass vocal and instrumental music education, performance, music theory, composition, dance, creative writing, art history, arts education, architecture and design, theatre, drama, media arts, sculpture, painting, drawing, film studies and photography.

Applicants should be high school seniors attending a public or private high school in Carteret County, NC.   Homeschooled applicants residing in Carteret County may apply. The Arts Council will also consider applicants who have not completed high school but have been accepted in advanced programs of study in art related disciplines.

Applicants who have been accepted to attend or who are attending Carteret Community College (CCC) and pursuing a degree in the arts either at CCC or as a transfer student from CCC to an accredited educational institution in the United States are also eligible.
Applications may be made through high school guidance counselors, and art teachers, the guidance office at Carteret Community College or directly to the Arts Council of Carteret County a PO Box 2294,  Morehead City, NC 28557.
No applications received by E-mail will be accepted.

High school student applications are due to high school guidance offices by noon, Wednesday, April 8, 2015.  Applications submitted through the guidance office at Carteret Community College are also due by Wednesday, April 8th.
Applications submitted directly to the ACCC must be postmarked by Wednesday, April 8th, 2015.
The Arts Council’s scholarship program was initiated in 2012. Since that time over $10,000 has been awarded in college scholarships to the students of Carteret County. The ACCC raises money for this program through projects dedicated solely to scholarships and private donations.  The Council has also set aside ten percent of its net income for the past three years to help fund the scholarship program.

Arts Council Receives TDA Grant

The Arts Council, representing a consortium of five 501(c)3 Arts Organizations in Carteret County – American Music Festival, Arts Council, Carteret Arts forum, Carteret Community Theatre, and the Down East FolkArts Society, received a grant from the Tourism Development Authority in May 2014. This is the second year that the Arts Council has received funding from TDA for advertising our combined activities in Our State Magazine. An estimated total of 75 events are scheduled for our combined seasons through June 30, 2015. Our goal through advertising is to bring people from outside of our area to Carteret County for our arts offerings. Our advertising theme this year will be: CARTERET COUNTY Where Art and Culture meet the Crystal Coast. The first ad for the September, 2014 issue of Our State Magazine is posted on this page.

In addition to listing the activities of the five arts organizations represented in the grant, we will be expanding our page this year to include other arts offerings in the county during the period of time each ad covers. The Arts Council is excited about the opportunity to promote and support the wonderful arts and cultural offerings in Carteret County. We believe this grant opportunity will help us promote Carteret County as the Arts Destination on the Crystal Coast.
